 The Knightly News

Knightly News from Read-a-Lot January 2008

Good morning all villagers from Read-a-Lot!  There’s much to report as January was officially proclaimed “Reading Month” and has inspired our townspeople to new heights. Speaking of heights….Sir Ryan H has officially caught the first dragon in Seconshire.  Newly crowned Princess Olivia V has taken a shine to the young dragon and keeps the cage in her bedroom closet!  All the pages, handmaids, ladies in waiting and squires have been working steadily to improve the economy of Seconshire by creating and serving yummy dishes….perhaps they had roast peacock or live blackbird pie??

Thirdborough continues to be plagued by fierce and ferocious dragons!  Dragon Masters Sir Griffen S and Princess Grace J have 21 dragon catches between them.  It’s a good thing there are so many brave readers including  who became Dragon Masters.  Sir Kevin caught two more of the creepy creatures and now has a total of 8!  Princess Megan C and Princess Nicole C conspired to trick two twisted baby dragons who got their tails crossed and captured them.  The Hamlet of Ambrose reports two knightings, Sir Cameron B and Sir Brian H who already caged two dragons.  Sir Jeffrey A was knighted in the Hamlet of Parker and is busily shining his armor.   0ther Thirdborough Knights include Sir Rohan J, Sir Edward S and Sir Ryan F.  Sir Edward and Sir Ryan each caught one of the fierce and fiery rodents. Rodents??? Fourthfork continues to be plagued with “Dragon Dread”.  Fortunately Sir Swopnil J, cagey knight that he is, managed to trap two of the slimy spinies.  On the west side of the kingdom, Sir Andrew Z stocked, staked and strapped-down two more!  He was overheard telling newly knighted Dylan Cl that one of the dragons was a draco americanus mex—very rare for this part of Read-a-lot.  Fourthfork boasts THREE more well read ladies who may now be addressed as Princess Shelby S, Princess Eileen M, and Princess Molly F who went right out and bravely captured the first dragon she came across!

This just in from Fifthfield—The Hamlet of Helke has been terrorized by a particularly large headed beast with terrible teeth.  He was caught, brushed and flossed by  Sir Joey M. Whew!  Talk about “dragon breath”.  The Hamlet of Sheler knighted Sir Jonathon W who is on the look-out and vowed to protect his village.  Sir Stephen J lassoed dragons believed to be twins and was hoisted into the sky and dropped near Seconshire.  It took him weeks to walk to Heilig, but worth the effort as he was credited with two dragons. Sir Garrett C and Princess Sarah H teamed up to trap a three headed beast, He almost tiptoed away when Sir Alex W trotted up from behind, collared her and all three knights staked her to the ground—once again proving that three heads are better than one! (unless you happen to be a dragon.)  Lady Knight Ana H seized two more of the slithering creatures—one was particularly shy, but her winning personality won her over and she practically flew into the cage. WOW!  You can certainly tell lots of stories and dragons are flying around Read-a-Lot.  Keep up the good work—fire up your imagination—and READ—READ—READ!!

December 2007

Read-a-lot is brimming with activity as all four of it’s kingdoms are having festivals prior to their week of winter sleep.

Secondshire reports due to lack of knights and princesses (other than Sir Ryan) the dragons are running amuck provoked by squires causing them to roar fire which heats up the villages. Other kingdoms have expressed concern this may contribute to “global warming.” A distress call has gone out to all Squires and Ladies in Waiting to read as much as possible over the break—return in January—and save the kingdom!

Thirdborough is safe and secure. Sir Kevin H. lept into action and quickly captured 2 dragons that were annoying the hamlet of Doheny. Sir Sam L. bravely captured two as well. One is said to be of an extremely rare variety and sports a huge pom-pom on the end of it’s tail. The kingdom continues to be dominated by Dragon Master Sir Griffen S. who recently caught his 9th dragon. The hamlet of Parker is busily building cages—lots and lots of cages—It’s rumored there will be a lot more reading over the break and, well, you know what that means!!

Fourthfork is experiencing an epidemic of “dragon-dread.”  The people are fearful and hesitant to leave their cottages for fear of running into one.  Fortunately, Sir Andrew Z. managed to catch two of the spiny reptiles, however, a particularly sneaky one escaped and was finally captured by recently knighted Sir Ryan S.   Sir Austin Y.  said he was inspired by such team work.

There is a flurry of activity in Fifthfield and I’m not referring to snow. The hamlet of Cowart is pleased to report the recent knightings of Sir Carter B.  and Lady Knights Ana H.  and K’aiulani F.  Lady knight Ana H.  immediately set to work with THREE dragon catches under her belt. Sir Carter B.  exhibited profound courage capturing one particularly ornery dragon with nails sharp as tacks.  Although covered with band-aids, Sir Carter exclaimed it was all in the thrill of the hunt! Dragon master Quinton A.  added his 9th dragon to his collection ensuring the hamlet of Helke rests in peace. Newly crowed Princess Sara H.  has vowed to fulfill her duties and serve her people to the best of her ability by encouraging all Fifthfielders to Read-A-Lot!
